A new study shows that a pill that contains sildenafil, an erectile dysfunction drug, is as safe and effective as the little blue pill Pfizer Inc. had hoped to lose to the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra in 1998.
However, the research, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, says that it was the little blue pill that caused the biggest surprise in history.
The study is based on a study in which more than 2,000 men who were sexually active for the first time in the previous 60 years were randomly assigned to take either a placebo pill or a sildenafil pill.
Dr. Mark Hoey, M. D., a researcher at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Houston, who led the study, told the New England Journal of Medicine that the drug sildenafil was as effective as Viagra.
"I think that's the main reason that we're seeing this big improvement over Viagra," he said. "So we're not going to be able to say, 'Well, that doesn't sound good, but we don't know yet what to expect.'"
Hoey said he hopes that the drug will be able to be used in some patients with a variety of medical conditions, including erectile dysfunction, and that it will not pose a serious health risk to the health of the people who take it.
"It's a pretty simple drug," he said. "I mean, it doesn't seem to work as well as Viagra."
Sildenafil was first approved by the FDA in 1998, and has been available since then for some people since then. The drug is the first to treat erectile dysfunction in men, and was first approved for use in the United States in 1998.
